Manchester United are laying several options on the table regarding updating Old Trafford. And these reportedly include bulldozing the entire stadium and building a new one in its place.
Even though this would undoubtedly be an emotional and unpopular option for many a fan, it’s thankfully understood to be the least likely one at this stage of the process. A huge obstacle in such an event would be where the team would continue to play their games during the time of construction of a new stadium.
But there are other options also, including a mere revamp of the existing structure. And given the massive footprint of the site, the club may very well want to position Old Trafford as a central cultural and community hub.
With the initial venue built in 1910, contractors have now been invited to present different ideas to Man-U executives. The club has also said that it remains committed to keeping supporters involved all throughout the re-build process.
No significant modernisation has occurred since 2005, when Malcolm Glazer acquired the club. According to Man-U Chief Operating Officer, Collette Roche, who last month conducted a brief discussion of the future of the venue with the club’s official fans’ forum. Roche said the process now being followed involves several world-renowned consultants all eager to help the club come up with a masterplan for revamping Old Trafford.
Roche said the aim will always be to improve the experience for the fans on matchday.
